Kirtland Camp
Kirtland Camp was the last organized group of Latter day Saints to leave Kirtland, Ohio to join the main body of Saints in Missouri.. the Kirtland Camp was organized under the direction of the presidents of the Seventy.  They left for Far West on July 6, 1838.  The size of the group varied between 400 and 780.  They arrived in Far West on October 2, 1838.  There they camped on the square around the foundation of the temple.  Before arriving in Far West, about five miles from the city, the Kirtland Camp was met by the First Presidency- Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon, and Hyrum Smith.  The residents of Far West recieved the camp with "joyful Salutations." (HC 3:147) After staying the night, the group decided to  continue on to Adam-ondi-Ahman.  They arrived there on October 4, 1838.   Eleven members of Kirtland Camp had also been a part of Zion's Camp.  Approximately 88 families totaling 405 people made it to Missouri, Of the 4o5, 115 settled in Caldwell County.
